Unit 3
Sgrafifto/slab building with slump mold

Version one:

Version two:

Plan (for both):
1. Create slab using machine
2. Cut out circle and let the clay get leather-hard
3. Cover with generous amount of underglaze and let dry
4. Carve out design with tools

Reflection:
I believe this project went well. I wasn't too happy with my original version, so I made another that I am much happier with. I think this was the right call. I love the contrast between the clay and the dark glaze on the second one; it really makes the rabbit pop nicely. If I had to change anything, I would have used a slump mold to make the bottom one in the shape of an actual plate instead of just a sphere, but I can hang it on the wall as decoration, so it does still have a use. I used a slump mold of a plate for the first one.
Coil building

Version one:

Version two:

Plan for version one:
1. Create slab using machine and cut out a heart shape
2. Roll out coils and shape them into swirls
3. Score and slip coils onto bottom of the heart
4. Using more coils, build up the walls, scoring and slipping as I move up
I ended up scrapping this project because I felt that it was too messy and not worth continuing.
Plan for version two:
1. Create slab using machine and cut out a circle
2. Roll out coils and score and slip them to the base, building them up to look like a pancake stack
3. Create a lid out of another circle and socre and slip butter and bananas on top
4. Bisque fire and then glaze with ____(05), ____(05), and ____(05).
Reflection:
I like how version two came out. I think it's a cute way to use coils, as they naturally look like pancakes from the side. This is supposed to be used as a container. I also like how the glazing came out. If I had to do it again, I would make it a larger stack of pancakes. I would also include a plate for them to sit on, but I was running out of time for this project as it was already my second attempt.
Slab building with darts

Plan:
1. Cut out rectangle out of slab
2. Create cylinder out of rectangle
3. Create shape by cutting out triangles
4. Attach bottom to cylinder using score and slip method

Reflection:
I also scrapped this project because I didn't like how this cup was looking. I plan to use this method to make a set of four for unit four. I also was busy during this unit because of all the other projects I was doing.
